There's a buzz of excitement in and around the William J. Hughes Tech Center in Atlantic City as development of the new Next Generation Aviation Research and Technology Park moves forward in support of the FAA's new project, the Next Generation Air Transportation System.
Under development by the South Jersey Economic Development District, the new park will be located on FAA property and the upgrades are drawing the attention of not only local residents, but a host of executives, contractors and government officials who are making their way to the area and filling hotels near the FAA Tech Center as plans evolve for property improvements. Research and development at the new technology park will contribute to the new Next Gen national air space system, and while located on the FAA's campus, the park will be a property tenant along with the Federal Transportation Security Laboratory, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Federal Air Marshal Training Center, the New Jersey Air National Guard's 177th Fighter Wing Unit and the Atlantic City International Airport.
The idea behind Next Gen is to create a new, comprehensive approach to air traffic control that will allow air travel to stimulate the economy rather than burden it. The new system is proposed to result in more direct air traffic routes, less delays and less fuel consumption as the FAA shifts from a radar-based system to one that is satellite driven.
Currently drawing approximately 4,500 persons to the Tech Center daily, progress with the new technology park will add to the number of persons making their way to the center and traveling for extended stay to Atlantic City. The distinctive new Residence Inn Atlantic City Airport Egg Harbor Township Hotel is conveniently located near the busy center and designed to provide travelers with comfortable, home-like accommodations.
