Rosy rating for Charlotte/Douglas International Airport
Nearly a year ago, Charlotte was in the national news, thanks to the Delvonte Tisdale case.
It was a horrific story: Tisdale’s mangled body was found in Milton, Mass. Investigators said the teenager fell from the wheel well of a plane that took off from Charlotte/Douglas in November.
After that, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released a shocking report that detailed a list of security issues at the city-owned airport, including not enough law enforcement.
After that, The Mecklenburg Times was the first to report that the city said it had no plans to prematurely end its contract with U.K.-based G4S, the private security company used to control vehicle traffic at the airport.
So what happens to an airport’s bond rating after something like the Tisdale incident happens? Does it go up in flames?
Not according to Fitch Ratings.
Last week, Fitch gave an A+ to two sets of Charlotte/Douglas revenue bonds totaling $112 million. Fitch also affirmed an A+ rating for another set of bonds worth $547.
Earlier this year, Fitch affirmed an A+ rating for some airport revenue bonds.
