Holiday airfare up to 10-percent higher than last year

Traveling over the holidays is always a bit more expensive than the rest of the year. But this season's airfare is up to 10-percent higher during the holidays than last year. CNN Money reports that as major Airlines face over-the-year losses, carriers are cutting some of their destinations or reducing flights on popular routes to cut costs. It makes sense for airlines to ensure their flights are full of paying passengers, but that means consumers pay higher fares. Plus, the Department of Transportation reports the number of air travelers is growing and with all that demand and limited supply, prices have no way to go but up. Booking tickets early is one of the biggest ways to save in air-travel costs this season, along with being choosey about which airports you use ? nearby airports can be a cost-saving alternative, according to CNN Money.
