US Airways Working to Be Less Tardy
US Airways says it has been working hard to operate flights on time since new managers took charge in late September - and there's no better example of its efforts than Philadelphia International Airport, where the airline has 63 percent of the passengers.
In the first nine months of 2005, US Airways had an average departure delay for all its Philadelphia flights of 171/2 minutes, compared with 151/2 minutes for all airlines, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Counting just flights that left a Philadelphia gate 15 minutes or more late, the average US Airways delay was 53 minutes and the average for all airlines was 571/2 minutes.
By the fourth quarter, US Airways had cut the average delay for all departing flights to 11 minutes, a fraction better than the average for all airlines. And the average delay for a late US Airways flight was 46 minutes, compared with 51 minutes for all carriers. - Tom Belden( [email protected])
