July 6, 2006
It is believed that he was driving the company vehicle to go and work inside the Air Pacific plane when he hit the aircraft.

An Air Terminal Services employee has been sent home after the vehicle he was driving hit a plane at Nadi International Airport.

The staff member was working when the incident happened on the airport's tarmac last week.

It is believed that he was driving the company vehicle to go and work inside the Air Pacific plane when he hit the aircraft.

It is understood that the door of the plane was damaged.

ATS is a ground-handling agent for the national carrier.

A senior ATS staff member yesterday confirmed the incident.

But he could not say whether the employee had been terminated or stood down from work until an investigation was conducted.

An ATS manager approached for more details said all queries must be sent in a fax today to chief executive Alifereti Malo.

Airports Fiji Ltd chief executive Ratu Sakiusa Tuisolia said he was not aware of the incident.

Ratu Sakiusa said if there was such an incident, his duty manager would be notified and a report would be forwarded to him.

Ratu Sakiusa said vehicles were used on the tarmac, especially by the ground handling companies.

Questions sent to Air Pacific chief executive officer John Campbell remain unanswered yesterday.
