C.A.L. Cargo Air Lines and Swissport Cargo Services Europe have entered into a full European contract for handling at all offline stations for C.A.L. The total volume amounts to over 40,000 tons and includes several countries. This is a major step forward in the relationship between the two companies, who were already holding a business relationship for handling activities in two countries until the new contract comes into being - as of 1 October 2006. C.A.L has its main European hub in Liege, where it handles some 70,000 tons annually and has seven freighters per week, two of them via Liege to New York (JFK).

All cargo is fed and de-fed to Liege where a full consolidation and build-up takes place. Swissport is hoping to exercise also various support functions such as full messaging and some trucking activities in the off-line stations in Europe.

This new agreement is proving (once more) that such kind of contracting models are setting the trend for an easier and more cost efficient purchasing process.

Rami Marom, Ground Operations Manager and Noa Yotzer, Economics Department Manager both agree: "The European global off-line handling agreement with Swissport will help C.A.L. to achieve one standard for service and will help us to maximize the potential form our European activity."

Heath White, VP Cargo Services Swissport Europe adds: "These were really interesting negotiations - we concluded them in two intensive days and tried to find not only a regional solution but also a station by station optimized solution with regards to costs and operations in order that C.A.L has the best of both, i.e. regional advantage through the network of Swissport set against local integrity for each station." C.A.L as a key account for Swissport will also have central contact persons to steer and further develop the product regionally.
