On January 12, a further building for complete aircraft units was opened by Fraport Cargo Services (FCS). The so-called Truck Dock is constructed for the quick handover of aircraft pallets and containers from trucks to airside transport units.
The share of ready-built units is continuously increasing. FCS prepared for this market trend by building the new truck dock. The units are now handled adjacent to the current warehouse at an own infrastructure. The building has direct access to the apron, and units can be accepted shortly before departure of the aircraft. The same works for import units: already shortly after arrival of the aircraft the pallets and containers are ready for delivery as they do not pass the normal process inside the warehouse.
FCS uses the new truck dock initially as an extension to the existing infrastructure and for the delivery of import units only. A high rack warehouse with a capacity of 225 units provides backup storage space. The truck dock itself has a roofed storage are for another 25 units. Up to 40 units can be loaded on trucks hourly.
The next step will be the full automation of the high rack warehouse. It will enable the self-acting delivery at arrival time of the customer. In case of emergency, a manual control will be possible.
