Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip's flight from Tallinn to London scheduled for this evening has been delayed by several hours as shortly before takeoff from the Tallinn airport a service vehicle crashed into the aircraft carrying the head of the government.
Estonian Air Vice President Rait Kalda said a vehicle of the national carrier's cooperation partner Airo Catering Eesti grazed the wing of the Boeing and broke the logo light at its tip.
"No serious damage was done, but the flights to London and back will be delayed by approximately two and a half hours. Estonian Air apologizes to passengers for the delay," Kalda said.
The airline will use another of its planes for the London flight.
The prime minister was on board the plane when the accident happened but the collision posed no threat, a spokeswoman for the government told BNS.
The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m., she said. Estonian Air's regular flight to London was to take off at 4:15.
Current plan is for the flight to depart at 6:45 p.m.
The prime minister will not have to rearrange his schedule in London because of the delay as the official part of the visit will begin on Tuesday morning, the spokeswoman said.
Ansip is to give a speech on developments in the European Union at the London School of Economics and Political Science on Tuesday.
