ACI Forecasts Doubled Air Travel by 2025

The Airports Council International (ACI) has forecast that the number of air travellers will double by 2025, to more than 9 billion travellers annually.

The Airports Council International (ACI) has forecast that the number of air travellers will double by 2025, to more than 9bn travellers annually.

Additionally, the ACI has also predicted that air freight will triple over the same period.

ACI said in its Global Traffic Forecast 2006-2025 that the number of passengers passing through the 1,650 domestic and international airports its 567 members operate will increase by an average of 4% annually over the period, Reuters reported. Currently some 4.2bn people travel by air every year.

The forecast also said that Asian air travel will increase by 9% annually, with India in the lead on 10.4% and with Chinese air traffic growing by 8.1%. In addition the ACI expects that by 2025 Asia will be challenging North America for the top spot as the busiest global air passenger region.
