Cargologic to take over airfreight handling activities at the airport of Lugano Agno

Feb. 21, 2007

As from 1 January 2007, Cargologic Freight Services AG is taking over all airfreight handling activities at the airport of Lugano-Agno and at the acceptance point of Bioggio.

The company, which belongs to the Rhenus Group, is taking over the staff and the entire airside and landside air cargo handling business of Swiss WorldCargo in Ticino. This will strengthen the significance of SWISS' airfreight receipt point south of the Alps, making it even more attractive to new customers.

The goal will be to continue to expand the market in Ticino and open new handling platforms for landside transport, in addition to the services already provided, including one in Chiasso.

Top priority will be given to connecting southern Switzerland to the Cargologic hubs in Zurich and Frankfurt, with numerous flights to destinations all over the world.

"Airfreight handling activities do not belong to Swiss WorldCargo's core business; therefore, we believe Cargologic is the ideal partner for the development of the cargo business in Lugano Agno and Bioggio. We are sure that the company's expansion plans will bring a lot of benefits to our customers in Ticino as well as to our employees," says Urs Stulz, Regional Manager Switzerland. "Our staff is actually a real value-added, and we are sure that, also with Cargologic, it will be highly noticeable for its professionalism, active support and dedication."

Cargologic is further expanding its European air cargo handling network through this takeover. The company employs around 1,000 people at Frankfurt, Zurich, Basel, Berne, Bratislava, Parchim and Lugano airports. It dispatches some 500,000 tonnes of freight per year. Cargologic's European road feeder network will also continue to be expanded
