SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) _ A man was charged with making bomb threats against American Airlines and the U.S. postal service in Puerto Rico, officials said.

Marvin Santiago-Reyes, 29, was charged with five counts of using a telephone to threaten damage to a building and three counts of making false threats, said Orlando Rios, a spokesman for the U.S. District Attorney's office.

The judge ordered him jailed until a preliminary hearing March 8, Rios said. He faces up to 10 years in prison for the first charge and five years for the second charge.

Santiago-Reyes was arrested while walking in Carolina, a suburb of the capital of San Juan where he resides, said FBI agent Luis Fraticelli.

He allegedly made bomb threats against American Airline flights between San Juan and the United States and a U.S. postal facility in Puerto Rico, Fraticelli said. The threats began Feb. 26 and were all made by telephone, he added.

Puerto Rico is U.S. Caribbean territory of 4 million residents.
