ABERDEEN, Scotland (AP) -- More than 80 people were placed in isolation at Aberdeen Airport Wednesday after unidentified white powder spilled from a bag being unloaded from a plane.
Emergency services and decontamination specialists were called after the substance leaked from a bag being removed from a KLM flight from Amsterdam in The Netherlands.
''Because the substance has not yet been identified, the 78 passengers and five crew who were due to leave Aberdeen at 10:50 a.m. (1050GMT) this morning for Amsterdam have been isolated as a precaution, as have a number of airport personnel,'' said airport spokesman Gerry Davis.
Grampian Police said they are trying to identify the powder, which was found in an unclaimed bag.
''At this stage we do not know what this powder is and so we must take all sensible precautions,'' said Chief Inspector John Duncan.
He added that ''experience has shown that most incidents of this kind have a perfectly innocent explanation.''
