Displaced airline workers in the Kansas City area will soon see some help from the federal government in finding new work.
The U.S. Department of Labor has issued a $1.2 million grant to help with job retraining for 210 workers affected by American Airlines' downsizing in Kansas City over the past few years, announced Sens. Kit Bond and Jim Talent of Missouri.
The grant, awarded to the Missouri Division of Workforce Development, will assist in counseling, career planning, employment development and occupational skills training.
Since March 2003, Missouri has received $10.3 million in such national emergency grants to assist 3,600 laid-off aviation workers in the state, said Rich Chrismer, a spokesman for Talent.
