Weekend travelers were sweating out more than flight delays Saturday morning, after an overnight power surge shut down Miami International Airport's air-conditioning system, airport officials said.

The surge occurred sometime after 11 p.m. Friday when there's usually a lull in flights, said Marc Henderson, an airport spokesman. Maintenance crews managed to restore the air conditioning by about 9 a.m. Saturday, but the terminal building took a while to cool down, he said.

Officials expected the building's temperature to be back to normal by noon, Henderson said.

About 95,000 to 100,000 passengers were expected to go through the airport on Saturday and about the same number are expected for today, Henderson said.
