SEATAC, Wash. (AP) -- The approach lights at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport went out Thursday morning while the runways were shrouded in heavy fog, forcing 21 incoming flights to be diverted.
No flights landed at Sea-Tac for nearly two hours, said airport spokesman Bob Parker. Some flights were held on the ground at their point of origin, while others were diverted to Bellingham, Wenatchee, Portland, Ore., and Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.
Arrivals resumed after the fog lifted.
The lights went out after a part failed, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer. The part was expected to be replaced later in the day.
