Frequent fliers can get more out of their miles on American Airlines this fall and winter if they're willing to fly a little closer to home.

The Fort Worth-based airline is launching a program Sept. 1 that awards seats for just 15,000 frequent-flier miles, instead of the usual 25,000. The catch: The destination must be within 750 miles. For North Texas travelers, that includes New Orleans, Atlanta, St. Louis, Denver and Nashville, Tenn.

The program runs through Feb. 28. American tried a similar promotion last year, awarding more than 80,000 short-hop seats.
