PHOENIX (AP) -- The body of a baby girl was found in a trash can in a women's restroom at the airport, authorities said.

The baby's umbilical cord was still attached but police did not believe that the child was born in the restroom, police spokesman Detective Tony Morales said.

A maintenance worker found the body Monday morning in Sky Harbor International Airport's largest terminal, police said.

Officers did not know whether the baby was born alive. An autopsy would be conducted.

''You think you've seen everything... then something like this,'' Aviation Director David Krietor said. ''It's very sad.''

Airport officials said that all security tapes were turned over to police but there were no security cameras near the bathroom where the baby was found.
