A man working on a twin-engine Piper Aztec was trapped underneath the plane when the wheels collapsed, causing the airplane to fall on him, fire-rescue officials said.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. at Fort Lauderale Executive Airport and firefighters worked to extricate the man by raising the plane, said Division Chief Dennis Sheehan of Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue.

When rescue workers found him, the man appeared to have injuries to his upper torso, Sheehan said.

The worker was taken to Broward General Medical Center in serious condition, Sheehan said.

Witnesses told The Herald that the worker was around 30 years old and that he lived in Hialeah.
