WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today that Shannon Garcia-Hamilton has been named Federal Security Director (FSD) at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif.
Since May 2004 Garcia-Hamilton has served as TSA's Federal Security Director at Lihue Airport, Kauai, Hawaii. In that position she worked with TSA and Congressional representatives to secure funding for a in-line baggage screening system and worked with airlines and the state Department of Transportation to continue established partnerships to help fulfill TSA's goal of providing world-class security and customer service.
"Shannon Garcia-Hamilton has demonstrated the important leadership skills necessary to meet the agency's goals," said Ed Gomez, TSA's Western Area Director.
Garcia-Hamilton, who joined the agency in September 2002, previously served as TSA's Stakeholder/Customer Support Manager at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and as a member of TSA's National Customer Support Manager Advisory Council. She also served as the Deputy Assistant FSD for Screening at LAX.
Garcia-Hamilton worked for United Airlines in Los Angeles from 1993 to 2002, serving as Cargo Supervisor and rising to the position of Operations Manager. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, she was United's Emergency Response Coordinator at the LAX Crisis Center, providing compassionate service to families of the victims of United Flight 175, which was en route from Boston to Los Angeles.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix, Los Angeles.
Garcia-Hamilton replaces Luz Ponce, who had served as the FSD at Bob Hope Airport since 2002. Ponce accepted a position in TSA's International Office in Spain.
