At 6:22 a.m. Saturday, American Airlines will officially be open for business in the new international Terminal D at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport -- 98 days after its foreign-flag competitors started flying from the new $1.2 billion facility.

An American flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is scheduled to land just before dawn and head for the first time to the new 28-gate terminal, which is being marketed as one of the best travel experiences in the country. If the Buenos Aires flight is late, two more American flights are scheduled to land before 7 a.m. -- from Santiago, Chile, and Sao Paolo, Brazil.

About 9 a.m., American plans to send its first departure from the new terminal, a 9:07 a.m. flight to Toronto. In total, the airline will have 78 daily flights from Terminal D and will use 19 of the 28 gates.

Among its features, the terminal will have new, upscale restaurants never seen in an airport, a custom-designed 9-foot-long red Ronald McDonald shoe for kids, and wider concourses.
