D/FW AIRPORT -- Airport officials will be recognized today for their rest and recuperation program, also known as Welcome Home.

The program was created by airport staff members and community volunteers to greet returning and departing soldiers. Welcome Home participants have donated time, money and supplies for more than 190,000 troops since the program began in July 2004.

The airport will receive the George Washington Honor Medal for its effort from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge -- a program created in 1949 to reward those who promote an appreciation of America's heritage and celebrate its freedoms.

The event will take place at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
