Executive Air Signs 1-Year Lease at North Dakota Airport
Executive Air's 30-year lease with Bismarck expired Dec. 31. If Rohlfs had not signed the one-year lease with the city, Executive Air would have had to shut down the business, which employs 45 people.
"It's not the type of lease I wanted to sign. It was only a one-year extension, with many additional costs. It also has so many controls that the city is micromanaging what I do."
The Bismarck City Commission did not want to provide Executive Air with a lease longer than one year because of the discrimination lawsuit filed against the city by Executive Air.
The case is expected to come to court in fall 2007.
Bismarck Mayor John Warford said he was pleased with the agreement and hopes, with resolving the lawsuit, the city and Executive Air will be able to enter into a long-term lease agreement.
"The situation has a lot of history that goes way back. There have been a lot of emotions on both sides. I think that at this point and time I'm pleased with the interim position we've arrived at," Warford said.
"We're charging them a rate equal to their competitor, though there has been some disagreement about that. I'm hoping now that we've gotten over this there will be the thawing of our relationship."
