An evacuation of approximately 1,000 travellers at San Francisco International Airport took place on Sunday (15 January) after a carry-on bag prompted a bomb scare.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, a baggage screener at Terminal 3 alerted a supervisor after seeing that a bag contained what appeared to be components for a bomb.

Three suspects, two men and a woman, were reportedly detained by police and the evacuation of the terminal was ordered. The suspects were attempting to board a connection flight to Dallas. They were later released without charge.

The bag was made safe by a bomb squad and passengers were allowed back into the terminal. No evidence of a bomb appears to have been found.
