LONDON_Workers building a new terminal at London's Heathrow Airport went on strike Friday in a dispute over pay.

Hundreds of employees of the Laing O'Rourke contractor staged a 24-hour strike and will ban overtime this weekend before walking out again on Monday.

A Heathrow spokeswoman said the strike would have no impact on the Terminal 5 project, which is scheduled to open in 2008, since most of its 8,000 construction workers are not involved in the strike.

Two unions representing the strikers, GMB and the Transport and the General Workers Union, are seeking a raise.
