The money will go towards the improvement of airplane traffic flow on the runways.

The office of Sen. Christopher S. Dodd, D-Conn., issued the following press release:

Sens. Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman today announced Bradley International Airport will receive a federal grant totaling $2,250,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvement of airplane traffic flow on the runways.

"Improvements to our state's busiest airport are essential to keeping travelers safe as well as keeping up to speed with air transportation demands," Dodd said.

"This funding will provide new jobs in Connecticut and a valuable boost to the state's transportation infrastructure benefiting our state's commuters and travelers."

"This funding will not only help ensure efficient airplane traffic, but also improve service and safety at Bradley," Lieberman said. "As air traffic picks up across our state, it's important that we keep our airports in top shape. These transportation grants will allow airport officials to make essential improvements."

In 2001, Bradley International Airport received $11.2 million in federal grants for improvements in conjunction with the expansion of the terminal building. The funding allowed the airport to construct a terminal apron for air carrier parking and an underground drainage facility to transport deicing material during inclement weather. The new grant funding will allow the airport to reconstruct three taxiways that serve the airport's principal runways.
