The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority may work out an exchange with the city to help the city pay for improvements at the Macon Downtown Airport.

Industrial authority chairman Frank Amerson said during Monday's meeting that Mayor Jack Ellis had asked for the authority's help to acquire and install an elevator at the airport. Ellis, who is a member of the authority, was not at the meeting.

Amerson said perhaps the city could deed some property to the authority in exchange for its help in paying for the elevator. Although the city owns land around the airport, Amerson said the land for a possible exchange could be located anywhere as long as it could be used as an industrial site.

The authority agreed Monday to allow architect Gene Dunwody to gather estimates of what the elevator would cost and present them to the authority before it agrees to an exchange.
