Pilots' Pension Plan May Be Terminated By Delta

The pilots' pension plan of Delta Air Lines Inc is likely to be terminated by the airline in an attempt to cut costs.

According to Reuters, a lawyer for the carrier said that the termination "looks more likely than not". A timetable for the termination of the plan has not yet been disclosed.

The carrier also manages a non-union plan, which officials said could be saved if a pension bill is approved with help for the industry, Reuters reported.

A 15-year, USD330m interest-bearing note has been offered to the pilots by the airline in an attempt to supplement lost benefits if the plan is terminated.

Bankruptcy court approval would be needed before the company is able to terminate the plan.
