American Airlines has canceled an Omaha presentation about a federal law that restricts air service at Dallas Love Field.

In response to the move, Southwest Airlines also canceled its presentation. Both were to take place during the Omaha Airport Authority's regular monthly board meeting today.

Don Smithey, executive director of the Omaha Airport Authority, said an American official called Monday morning to cancel the presentation.

An American spokesman said the airline canceled the appearance to put its resources toward talks involving the city governments in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Several bills are pending in Congress that would remove restrictions on Love Field.

Southwest spokesman Ed Stewart said the airline canceled a trip to Omaha by general counsel Ron Ricks after learning that American would not make its presentation.

"That's too bad because we had a lot of ammunition," Stewart said. -- Stacie Hamel
