A 67-year-old woman from Solvay accidentally tried to bring a loaded handgun onto an airplane departing from Syracuse's Hancock Airport last week, city police reports filed Tuesday said.

The woman told police she forgot that the loaded .38 special handgun was in her purse, police reports said. The woman was passing through a security checkpoint Thursday to board a plane to Florida when screeners discovered the gun.

Prosecutors from the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office and U.S. Attorney's Office decided not to press charges against the woman, but police confiscated the gun. The woman caught a later flight to Florida.
