A former US air traffic controller is to be returned to Colorado on possible charges of planting explosive devices outside five homes in the state.

According to The Associated Press, the man waived extradition in federal court in Salt Lake on Thursday (6 April) and will be sent to Denver.

The man was previously employed by Serco Group Plc, a UK company that operates 56 air traffic control towers. He was reportedly dismissed in 2004 after working for the company for four years.

The former controller was wanted in connection with three explosive devices that went off on 24 March in western Colorado at the residences of three aviation industry employees. The devices were similar to one that detonated at the corporate office of Serco Group in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on 1 February. Two other devices were defused.

No charges have yet been brought against the former controller.
