Authorities reopened a busy terminal at Brussels' Zaventem International Airport Thursday after it was closed when a man who was behaving suspiciously fled into the zone.

All flights from Terminal A were immediately suspended and passengers were told to leave the terminal while police searched for the man.

"This is a very exceptional situation," airport spokesman Jan Van Der Cruysse told VRT network. He said the suspect fled into the terminal to escape a security check.

It was still unclear whether the suspect had been apprehended

The terminal was closed for more than two hours and at least 56 flights to European destinations were either delayed or canceled.

The evacuated terminal services flights to the so-called Schengen zone in Europe where no passport controls are necessary.
