A huge fire in an airport hangar destroyed one plane, damaged three others and caused major disruptions in morning traffic at Belgium's Zaventem international airport on Friday.

One man was seriously injured and two firefighters were lightly wounded in the night blaze, said Zaventem Mayor Francis Vermeiren.

SN Brussels airline suspended flights for an hour and resumed them only when it became clear that smoke from the fire, which was drifting toward the airport buildings, was not toxic.

Flights at Belgium's largest airport were expected to suffer delays for most of the morning. The cause of the fire was yet to be established.
