Norway's Oslo Lufthavn closed tenders for retail space at Oslo airport at the end of April. The airport revealed that 50 retailers bid for concessions in the fashion, accessories, electronics, jewellery and watches categories. About 1,000sq m (10,760sq ft)of space is being tendered in the departures area, with 240sq m (2,585sq ft) available in arrivals.
Oslo Lufthavn retail manager Roar Odegaard told DFNI that most of the bidders were local retailers alongside 10 travel-retail specialists. He expressed disappointment that the airport had not received bids for the children's gifts and toys concession it planned to open. "We set aside 70sq m [753sq ft] to dedicate to this category but haven't received any bids for it. Although the bidding process is closed weare willing to accept further proposals for all categories throughout the year."
The airport Hill begin evaluating bids this month. "We will informthe board and announce the winners in each category later this summer. We are happy with the bids received so far and are looking forwardto analysing the details." Contracts will start on January 1 and will run for five years.
Oslo's duty-free retailer is Travel Retail Norway. The airport registered passenger traffic of 15.9m last year and expects a total of 16.5m this year. Oslo Lufthavn has predicted that its commercial revenue will reach approximately NKr2.3bn ($354m) in 2006.
