A small airplane flipped over after strong winds blew through the Southwest Side on Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured when the single-engine general aviation aircraft flipped onto its nose at Midway International Airport around 2:20 p.m., according to Kristen Cabanban, a spokeswoman for the city Aviation Department.

The plane was moved near a fence at the airport by the Fire Department and the Aviation Department, according to Fire Media Cmmdr. Will Knight.

The plane had been tied down for more than a year, Knight said.

On the other side of town, a still-and-box alarm and an EMS Plan I was called to a flight at O'Hare International Airport at about 6 p.m., according to Knight. It was secured without incident about 15 minutes later, he said.
