Airbus A380 Breaks Another Record in Evacuation Test

The World's largest passenger aircraft has broken another record.

Experts from Smiths Aerospace in Arle Court, Cheltenham, Staverton-based Messier-Dowty, and Ultra Electronics, also of Cheltenham, have all played key roles in getting the Airbus A380 in to air.

The super-sized jet used 16 emergency slides the same time using only the aircraft's battery power.

This is the largest number of evacuation slides ever inflated at the same time on any passenger aircraft.

The tests form part of an overall European Aviation Safety Agency and Federal Aviation Administration certification programme.

In the test, the aircraft must provide routes of escape from all doorways in the event of an emergency.
