Contractor Chosen for Ontario Security Upgrades

Airport officials have chosen a contractor to construct new perimeter security measures at Ontario International Airport.

Stronghold Engineering was the lowest bidder for the project, which includes replacing more than eight miles of fencing as well a airfield and a 20-foot-wide perimeter roadway.

Plans to upgrade security around the airport have been stalled since 2002, when Los Angeles World Airports -- the agency that operates ONT -- received a $4.5 million federal grant for the project.

A second grant, for $3 million, was added in 2003. But previous bidders estimated the project would cost too much, and were rejected by LAWA's Board of Airport Commissioners.
