Security measures in place at U.S. airports in response to a thwarted terror plot in Britain.

_ All liquids and gels are banned from carry-on luggage, including all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel and other items of similar consistency.

_ Drinks purchased in the airport cannot be carried onto flights.

_ Baby formula and medications will be allowed but must be presented for inspection at security checkpoints.

_ Passengers are also asked to arrive at least two hours early to allow for additional screening.

_ Passengers traveling to the United Kingdom will be subject to more extensive screening and should contact their airline for information about any additional security measures or precautions that might be required.

_ More federal air marshals will be in airports and on flights.

_ More armed guards are being posted visibly in airports, and National Guard troops were called in to assist with airport security in California, New York and Massachusetts.

_ Passengers are urged by the Transportation Security Administration to pack lightly, check in luggage well before flight time, cooperate with screening personnel and be attentive to any suspicious activity.
