'TaxiPass' to Let Passengers Use Card at Salt Lake Int'l

The program allows passengers to use their credit or debit cards instead of having to carry cash.

Taxi passengers at Salt Lake City International Airport will now be able to use their credit or debit cards to purchase vouchers for a ride into town.

The airport will start offering the "TaxiPass" program where passengers swipe a card, get a voucher for a cab ride, and fill out the voucher to the taxi company as though it were a check. The driver then deposits the voucher with his or her cab company, and the money is deducted from the passenger's account.

The program allows passengers to use their credit or debit cards instead of having to carry cash.

The system "will streamline the process of paying for a taxi and enhance the security of the transaction," Airport Executive Director Roy Williams said in a statement Monday.
