Plan to Use Baby in Terror Plot

The theory is believed to be one of the reasons security chiefs insist mothers taste baby's milk before allowing them to take bottles aboard flights.

A husband and wife team arrested in the terror plot raids may have planned to take their six-month-old baby on a mid-air suicide mission, police believe.

Scotland Yard investigators are quizzing the pair over allegations they planned to use the child as a decoy aboard a flight set to be blown from the sky.

Investigators quizzing suspects Cossor Ali, 23 and husband Abdula Ahmed Ali, 25, are exploring the theory the parents planned to hide explosive chemicals in the baby's bottle.

The theory is believed to be one of the reasons security chiefs now insist mothers taste baby's milk at the check-in desks before allowing them to take bottles aboard flights.

Police were yesterday combing the young couple's east London housing commission flat for clues.

Cossor initially took her baby with her to the police station when arrested during last week's raids, but her son is now being cared for by grandparents.

Cossor's grandfather, Nazir Ahmed, 84, told the Mail on Sunday newspaper Abdula had travelled to Pakistan about four weeks ago.

''We didn't understand what the hurry was and why he needed to go on his own,'' Mr Ahmed said.

A neighbour said he would be stunned if claims made against them were true. ''I simply cannot believe he could have been involved in a plot like this.''
