Airport noise monitoring without financial contribution will be the recommendation to the City Council at Tuesdays meeting.

City staff members plan to present a proposal that would suggest the city of Pleasanton join the city of Livermore in its quest for noise monitoring for the Livermore Municipal Airport -- but without paying for a portion of the cost.

Livermore had previously asked Pleasanton to contribute $93,000 -- two-fifths of the cost for a $233,000 system. The system proposes placing two systems in Livermore, two in Pleasanton and one at the airport.

The Livermore City Council is asking its neighboring city for support because more than half of airport noise complaints come from Pleasanton residents.

But Pleasanton staff reports indicate that the Livermore Airport Enterprise fund should pay the full cost for monitoring because the airport is the root of the problem.

The decision will be left up to the Pleasanton City Council on Tuesday.

If the council does not approve funding for the system, the Livermore council may reconsider the issue.

The decision made by the Livermore council in July had an all-or-nothing condition that stated Livermore would only go forward with noise monitoring if Pleasanton agreed to help fund it.Pleasanton resident Purnam Sheth, who has been outspoken against airport noise and expansion, said he hopes the noise monitoring goes forward whether or not Pleasanton helps fund it.

Id encourage Pleasanton to fund it because its in their best interest, Sheth said.

But he added that if Pleasanton chooses to not fund the monitoring, it should ultimately be the responsibility of the airport.

Theyre making the noise, they should pay for it.
