Newnan-Coweta Airport Expansion in Ga.

Sept. 1, 2006
The project will be completed in two 10-acre phases and include build-to-suit hangars ranging from 12,000 to 30,000 square feet each.

The Newnan-Coweta Airport is poised for a nearly $25 million expansion that will position it as a convenient and accessible alternative for businesses that operate from local airports.

Ed Loughlin, president of Newnan-based Pegasus Associates, and Chris Nadel, director of operations and development officer for Sarasota, Fla.-based Tradewind LLC, are planning to develop 20 acres on the east side of the airport's runway to attract corporate aviation to the 40-year-old airport.

The project will be completed in two 10-acre phases and include build-to-suit hangars ranging from 12,000 to 30,000 square feet each, Nadel said.

The county-run airport, which is in the process of clearing and preparing the site, will lease the property to Loughlin and Nadel's partnership, which will build the hangars as tenants are secured and approved by the airport authority, said Calvin Walker, airport manager.

Both Nadel and Loughlin said the first phase would generate about 60 new jobs.

"I think it's going to be a tremendous economic generator," said Dale Pepper, chairman of the Newnan-Coweta Airport Authority.

"As people look at Coweta County as a place to relocate, and they look at the whole big picture of the county, they do take a hard look at the airport."
