British aircraft-engine maker Rolls-Royce PLC said Wednesday it has struck an $800 million deal with Air China to install its Trent 1000 engines in the carrier's new fleet of Boeing 787 jets.
The deal includes a long-term maintenance agreement on the 15 planes. Deliveries of the aircraft are due to begin in June 2008.
"The decision to select the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 was taken after a careful evaluation and successful negotiation," said Air China Chairman Li Jiaxiang. "It meets the operational requirements of our Boeing 787 fleet, and the choice will be beneficial to Air China's development."
The 787 is U.S.-based Boeing Co.'s next-generation plane, tailored to cover more destinations with more frequent, nonstop services.
