American Airlines has announced a one-week test of a new a la carte snack option.

The option will be part of the main cabin Food on Board programme. The airline said that, effective immediately, customers on selected test flights this week can purchase Klondike Movie Bites ice cream, Otis Spunkmeyer Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Lay's Stax Crisps or Twix '4 To Go' bars for USD3, or Dannon bottled water for USD2.

The a la carte test is in addition to the complimentary beverage service, which remains unchanged, and the existing Food on Board fresh service available on American Airlines flights.

The airline is conducting the a la carte test based on survey results and feedback from customers and employees, as a recent survey showed that 78% of respondents said they would be interested in purchasing individual items. The a la carte test will be available on selected Dallas Fort Worth/Los Angeles, DFW/Miami and New York JFK/San Francisco routes between 25 September and 1 October.
