Work should start within the next three to six months on a $750,000 infrastructure improvement project.

The Sand Springs-Pogue Airport is set to undergo several expansion projects.

Work should start within the next three to six months on a $750,000 infrastructure improvement project.

The improvements include new water lines for the fire suppression system, septic system and storm water retention.

Ken Madison, airport supervisor, said the airport's growth is planned.

"We're trying. It's been a long process, but we're getting ready to see more growth out here," he said. "I think we'll see more business aviation interested in moving here."

The city of Sand Springs is also gearing up to build 18 new aircraft storage hangars.

The airport already has 47 city-owned hangars and 15 privately owned hangars.

Madison said there is a waiting list for hangars.

"We anticipate filling the new hangars," Madison said. "Once the dirt starts moving on the project, we'll be calling the people on the waiting list."

An additional $500,000 project, funded primarily by a Federal Aviation Administration grant, should begin in about six months. This project will replace all the electrical wiring for the east taxiway, or taxiway bravo.

A new fixed base operations office is set to be built to accommodate Platinum Air, which is opening a commercial operation at the airport.

Platinum Air will offer full-service fuel sales and operate a helicopter training school.

The Platinum building will include a large office and private hangar.

"Building a large hangar complex will spur business aviation and corporate aviation," Madison said.

The 12,000-square-foot hangar will be accompanied by a 7,000-square-foot office with meeting room and weather briefing rooms.

Madison said Platinum Air should be opened within 12 to 18 months.
