American Airlines Employees Collect Phone Cards for US Soldiers

Employees of American Airlines based in Atlanta have launched a drive to collect international phone cards to be delivered to United States soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The employees reportedly started the effort as a community service project to help meet the USO's urgent call for international phone cards to help soldiers telephone home.

The employees are asking travellers passing through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport between 6 December and 10 January to bring international phone cards to any American Airlines counter at the airport. As an incentive to increase card donations the airline is offering members of the public two opportunities to win round-trip coach air fare for two with every donation of an international phone card. No purchase is necessary.

Phone cards also may be donated directly to the USO; however only cards donated through American Airlines will include entry to the contest.

To donate and to enter the draw for free air fare, customers should place their international phone card donation in the designated envelope and provide contact information. Each donation with contact information received in the designated box no later than 10 January will be entered in the contest. There is no limit to the number of entries and winners will be selected by 15 January.
