Chinese Airports to Install Liquid Explosive Scanners
Machines are to be installed at all airports in China to scan for liquid explosives.
The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China has said that new machines developed by Chinese company NUCTECH will be installed gradually at each of China's 147 airports.
The cost of the investment has not been announced, but NUCTECH executives were quoted as saying that the scanning machines sell for $200,000 each on the international market.
Air travellers in China have been banned from carrying most liquids on board flights since a crash in May 2002 which was blamed on a passenger setting fire to gasoline in soft drink cans, according to Reuters. This ban is expected to remain in place.
