US Proposes Broader Antitrust Immunity for Star Alliance

It would permit United Airlines and Air Canada to deepen their cooperation and expand the Star Alliance's antitrust immunity to three new carriers.

The existing antitrust immunity for the Star Alliance could be broadened under a new proposal by the United States government.

According to Reuters, the US Department of Transportation has said it would permit United Airlines and Air Canada to deepen their cooperation and expand the Star Alliance's antitrust immunity to three new carriers: Swiss International Air Lines, LOT Polish Airlines and TAP Air Portugal.

The carriers will be granted immunity from US antitrust laws if the proposal is accepted. This would reportedly allow them to plan and coordinate services.
