Vietnam to Privatize its Air Carrier

The airline is looking at selling 10-20% of its shares to the public.

State-owned Vietnam Airlines is one of 71 companies on a privatisation list approved by Vietnam's prime minister.

The 71 state-owned businesses will reportedly be partially privatised between now and the year 2010. According to The Associated Press, the decision was made last week but has only just been announced. The companies listed will be required to make plans to sell equity shares to the public. The plans have to be submitted to prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung for his approval.

According to Tran Dinh Hung, an official with Vietnam Airlines, the carrier's board of directors will meet this month. The airline is looking at selling 10-20% of its shares to the public.
