Israel to Issue Special Pilot IDs

Commercial airlines flying to Israeli territory are to be issued with a new pilot identification system this year.

Israeli officials have said that the system, developed by Israel-based Elbit Systems, is intended to prevent 11 September-type attacks. Aircraft lacking the 'Code Positive' system, to be distributed free of charge from May, will be turned back from the country.

Israel is considered to have the most sophisticated aviation security system in the world, according to Reuters.

The Code Positive system was described by Danny Shenar, head of security at the Transportation Ministry, as a credit card-sized device, personally and exclusively assigned to each pilot.
