Indonesia Requests Aid to Retrieve Flight Recorders
Today (30 January) Indonesia said that it has asked for foreign aid in recovering the flight recorders from the Adam Air aircraft that disappeared on 1 January.
The so-called black box is thought to be located deep on the sea bed, possibly as deep as up to 2,000 metres. Signals suspected to have originated with the flight recorders were detected last week by a United States Navy ship.
Indonesia has requested aid from the United States, France and Japan, to recover the flight recorders from the Boeing 737, Reuters reported.
Setio Rahardjo, Indonesia's national transport safety board chief, said that Indonesian representatives would meet with the US ambassador today, while France has offered its assistance. Indonesia is reportedly awaiting a response from Japan.
